Ferry and RoRo carrier Stena Line has announced a senior executive reshuffle on Wednesday.

Deputy CEO Niclas Mårtensson has been appointed CEO by the Stena Line as of September 28th 2016. The current CEO, Carl-Johan Hagman, will resume his position as Chairman of the Stena Line Board and will also remain in the role as Head of Shipping at Stena AB.

Niclas Mårtensson has more than 10 years’ experience of working in different senior positions within Stena Line including Route manager in Germany and Poland, COO and most recently as Deputy CEO.

“This appointment is a natural step in our development process.  We are pleased that we have recruited a CEO internally who will be able to fully focus on realising the strategy,” said Carl-Johan Hagman.

The transportation needs of our freight and travel customers continue to increase and evolve and Stena Line, with its comprehensive European network, is well positioned to meet that demand in a sustainable way”, said Niclas Mårtensson.

In April this year, the group announced that it had ordered four new Ro-Pax ferries, which will sail on Stena Line's route network in North Europe.

The new ferries will be built by Chinese Avic Shipyard and delivered in 2019 and 2020. The order came with an option to increase the contract with another four ferries.

"These ships will be the most fuel efficient ferries in the world and will set a new industry standard when it comes to operational performance, emissions and cost competitiveness, positioning Stena Line to support its customers in the next decades," Carl-Johan Hagman stated then.

Stena Line is one of Europe’s largest ferry operators with 35 ferries and 22 routes in northern Europe. The company is family-owned, was founded in 1962 and its head office in Gothenburg. Stena Line is part of the Stena group, which has around 20,500 employees and a turnover of more than SEK 55.000 million.
