
Sweden's government has on September 28th decided to introduce tonnage tax for the country on January 1st 2017.
"This is a highly anticipated decision, and we're pleased and relieved that the reform is finally setled. Carriers and unions in the maritime sector have a joint interest in this tax reform, and then same applies not least to the entire Swedish population. Our ambition is to ensure that more carriers will not choose the Swedish flag," says Director Pia Berglund of the Swedish Shipowners' Association in a press release.
