European Parliament wants carbon caps on shipping

Shipping will be included in the EU carbon trading system in 2023 if the IMO CO2 deal is not in effect from 2021. This is the decision from the Parliament's Environment Committee Thursday, directly opposing a previous recommendation from the Industry Committee and the wishes of shipowners.

On Thursday morning, the EU Parliament's Environment Committee (ENVI) voted in favor of including shipping in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) – as many parties had expected it would.
