European politicians want ambitious carbon regulations

On the same day that the EU Commission's draft on carbon quotas for shipping was leaked, a majority in the EU Parliament voted in favor of having shipping contribute significantly more to the fight against greenhouse gases.

A majority in the EU Parliament on Tuesday supported a proposal to reduce carbon emission from shipping significantly more in the coming years, not least by placing the sector under the EU's Emissions Trading System, ETS.

It was more or less expected that the European politicians would support the so-called MRV proposal, as it has already found support in the environmental committee, where Green Group MEP Jutta Paulus presented it.
