Climate scientist on green transition in shipping: It's coming – with or without legislation

Just as it happened in the car industry, the green transition in shipping can set off within a few years, predicts scientist Tristan Smith. Legislation isn't the be-all and end-all, as a special "transition dynamic" that is able to gear up the transition appears to be setting in.

No lawmaker can take credit for the car industry getting involved in the production of electric cars and the phaseout of fossil fuels. Tesla and Elon Musk can, however, be ascribed an important role, along with battery producers and the IT industry as a whole.
