Shipping must fight coal-fired power plants for green ammonia

It will require almost all the renewable energy currently being generated to supply shipping with green ammonia, according to researchers with Sintef Ocean. Ammonia is therefore no be-all, end-all solution, says research manager.

If one is to produce sufficient green ammonia to supply the shipping industry, it will require an immense amount of the total renewable energy generated today. That is, roughly all the hydroelectric, photovoltaic and wind power currently being generated - just to produce a fuel with which leading research institution Sintef Ocean is seeing several challenges.
