EU looks to Asia and Africa for deals to secure gas supply

A halt to Nord Stream 2’s approval and war drums over Ukraine make the EU look to Africa, among other places, as well as the possibility of redirecting other countries’ LNG contracts to the union’s energy market. Former Russian president threatens with gas price repercussions.

BRUSSELS – A de facto shutdown of Nord Stream 2’s expected flow of Russian natural gas means that the European Union now seeks to exchange gas contracts abroad in order to secure supply to Europe.
