Nearly half of new orders in Q1 were for ships ready for alternative fuels

The proportion of new ships built for sailing on alternative fuels is increasing. LNG-powered vessels make up the majority of new tonnage, says Clarksons Research.

Increasing climate requirements for shipping are making their mark on carriers’ orders for new ships, with orders for vessels powered by alternative fuels in the first quarter making up nearly half of shipbuilders’ total orderbooks.
