One alternative fuel may be particularly dangerous

In a new study – which Maersk, Shell, Euronav and MSC Ship Management, among others, are behind – the new alternative fuels are ranked based on how dangerous they are. The industry has to be careful with one of them, in particular.

A risk assessment of the four alternative fuels liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, methanol and ammonia shows that one of them under certain conditions is so dangerous that the risk is categorized as unacceptably high.

It is the so-called Together in Safety coalition that has conducted the comparison of the four fuels, which have been chosen to represent the main part of the shipping industry’s green transformation.
