Ammonia has big potential as shipping fuel – but will require enormous production

Ammonia, which can be environmentally damaging if handled incorrectly, has a very big potential as a future fuel for shipping. An order book will be seen in the market from 2028, forecasts research center.

If all barriers linked to ammonia as a potential fuel for shipping are overcome, the chemical could become an important part of shipping’s transition to green, alternative fuels.
