Shipowner associations positive about preliminary climate deal: "We are pleased"

A number of European shipowners’ associations are optimistic about the preliminary ETS agreement, which sets the stage for a gradual phase-in period for shipping.

With a preliminary deal in place for shipping’s inclusion into the European Union’s quota trade system, Emissions Trading System (ETS), it is now clear that carriers will have to pay for CO2 emitted by their ships within the EU from 2024 onwards.
