DFDS: We only need to build four new ferries to reach climate goals

The ferry and logistics operator has built so much buffer into its plans that it can build fewer green ferries than planned and still reach climate targets, says CEO.
”There are quite a few container ships to be delivered here over the next few years. And it’s our impression that the yards are busy with that. But we expect there will be some capacity in the yards when we get a few years ahead,” says Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS. | Photo: Dfds

In the coming years, DFDS will build six green ferries for approximately DKK 7.5bn, but in reality, the shipping company only needs to build four to reach its climate targets in 2030, DFDS chief exec Torben Carlsen tells ShippingWatch in connection with the company’s capital markets day.
