German and Norwegian shipowners view seafarer tax as vital for competition

Shipping companies would be at a disadvantage in global competition if their seafarers were to be taxed regularly, warn German and Norwegian shipping associations.

Tax-free wages for seafarers are crucial for the competitiveness of shipping companies in Denmark’s neighboring countries, Norway and Germany, say the two countries’ shipping associations after an expert group has proposed that Denmark abolish the seafarer tax, meaning that Danish seafarers do not pay tax on their income.
