MAN says half of new ships will still sail on heavy fuel in 2030

MAN Energy Solutions' engines are prepared for any type of fuel – or they will be within a few years. Still, the company expects half of newbuild vessels to select a fossil fuel in 2030, and for one particular reason.

Speaking to MAN Energy Solutions, it seems like the shipping industry's transition to using new fuels is in fact doable here and now.

The company, which is part of the new initiative Getting to Zero Coalition, has now developed and tested two-stroke engines able to sail on LNG, LPG, ethane, methanol, biodiesel and, finally, conventional diesel.
