The new low-sulfur ship fuel could be far more harmful to vulnerable areas such as the Arctic than the traditional fuel oil it replaced at the turn of the year, concludes a new preliminary study.
This is something of a paradox, as the sulfur regulations have been adopted in order to reduce shipping's impact on the environment. As such, the IMO needs to act now, says an environmental NGO in a statement.
