Major Danish-German engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo looks to have received a veritable flood of orders in November and December 2013. Contracts for a total EUR 212 million landed on the company's desk, and a vast majority of these orders were for MAN's environmental dual-fuel engines, which run on standard ship fuel as well as gas, says MAN Diesel & Turbo.

The company points out that the demand for dual-fuel engines has grown significantly in recent times, primarily due to the increasingly stricter requirements for ship emissions. Furthermore, natural gas is widely considered a greener alternative to conventional ship fuel.
