Fight for billion-dollar ballast water market is underway

Producers of ballast water management systems are counting down to the billion-dollar market which will emerge when the convention comes into force in September this year. "2017 will be better than last year, but the boom will come in 2018," says Optimarin, one of the companies approved by the US Coast Guard.

The suppliers of ballast water management systems are now starting to see the outlines of a billion-dollar market as the implementation of the IMO's ballast water convention approaches.

Norway's Optimarin is one of three system suppliers which have at this point obtained crucial approval for their ballast water management systems from the US Coast Guard (USCG).
