Russian gas pipeline could threaten shipping

If Denmark says no to a Russian gas pipeline due to political reasons, it could impact safety for ships in the Baltic Sea, as the project will instead be placed beyond the reach of Danish authorities in trafficked waters.

The Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline looks set to force Denmark into a dilemma between foreign policy interests and environmental considerations, reports Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. If the country blocks the pipeline in Danish waters, the Russian company could respond by choosing another route north of the Danish island Bornholm.
