Shell appeals historic climate verdict

The oil giant will not accept the Dutch ruling, which directs the company to reduce its global emissions by 45 percent towards 2030.

In May, climate activists called it "ground-breaking" when a court in the Netherlands, where Shell is headquartered, ordered the oil giant to reduce its carbon emissions by 45 percent towards 2030 compared to 2019 levels.

This marked the first time that a company was held accountable to comply with the Paris Agreement.
