This year's most read: Skou's farewell, logistics rally, CII trouble and curbed Russian trade

Søren Skou stepping down, the questioning of Maersk’s logistics venture, the troublesome sides to CII and the nosediving container freight market were all topics that ShippingWatch’s readers cared about the most.

The year of shipping 2022 received a major signing-off when Søren Skou announced his departure as CEO of the second-largest container carrier in the world, Maersk.

But Maersk made splashes for other reasons too, especially for its logistics armament causing the carrier to take on more of a dual role – in both sea freight and logistics.

Some forwarders expressed concerns about the dual role, while DSV kept a straight face.

2022 was also the year leading up to the new climate regulation taking effect, and there is no doubt that CII has been a hot topic in shipping with several players criticizing the regulation for missing several crucial marks.

Container carriers raked in large profits during the two years of the global pandemic, but that is all coming to an end. How the normalization of the container market will play out has also been an interesting topic for readers of ShippingWatch.

Finally, 2022 saw Russia invading Ukraine, and the international community’s trade sanctions against Russia also mattered to our readers.
