Dry bulk ships on short routes in Europe help compensate for bottlenecks in other shipping segments such as container lines, according to Toepfer.

Smaller dry bulk vessels on short routes in Europe continue to benefit from rapidly increasing freight rates, reveal fresh numbers from brokerage Toepfer.

Although rates were already high, they kept climbing in October, according to Toepfer's Shortsea Index, and demand is particularly high in the eastern Mediterranean.
