Maersk's acquisition of Hamburg Süd intensifies battle for market shares

Massive growth in container volumes in Latin America has triggered a new battle in the market following Maersk's acquisition of Hamburg Süd, writes Alphaliner. Global container volumes are at a six-year high.

Growth in the world's largest container ports of 7.7 percent in this year's third quarter was the highest level of growth since 2011, shows an analysis from Alphaliner, which covers more than 200 ports that handle over 75 percent of global container volumes.
