Media: MSC reshuffles leadership

MSC's founder, 79-year-old Gianluigi Aponte, will step down as chairman and pass the torch on to his son, Diego Aponte, who has till now served as CEO, reports the Wall Street Journal. New version with comment from MSC.

An article by the Wall Street Journal on Monday suggested that Gianluigi Aponte would step down as part of a leadership reshuffle at MSC. The shipping company has issued the following statement. ShippingWatch brings the statement followed by the original article posted Monday morning:

"Earlier media reports suggesting that Gianluigi Aponte would step down and be replaced by his son Diego Aponte as Chairman were erroneous, a spokesman for the company said. Both retain a close, hands-on role at the top of the business."
