Hapag-Lloyd does not regret failed merger with Hamburg Süd

Hapag-Lloyd’s mergers with CSAV and UASC have put the German carrier in a situation ”at least equally as good” as a merger with Hamburg Süd would have, says CEO Rolf Habben Jansen. Hamburg Süd attempted years ago to merge with Hapag-Lloyd but was sold off to Maersk.

Today, container carrier Hapag-Lloyd is positioned ”at least equally as good” as the German company would have been if the attempted merger with Hamburg Süd had succeeded, estimates Chief Executive Rolf Habben Jansen four years after the tradition-bound Hamburg Süd was taken over by Maersk.
