Demand for intercontinental container routes wanes

While goods volumes grew on intra-Asia routes, they decreased in the rest of the world over the past year, says analyst firm. Thus, containers are being transported over shorter distances, increasing capacity.

Although container volumes in global box shipping grew slightly in July, by 0.6 percent, a gloomier picture emerges when taking into account how far the containers are transported, according to analyst firm Sea-Intelligence.
