Ocean Network Express (ONE) will establish a new subsidiary company, ONE Dejima in Nagasaki, Japan, to support some of the operational functions of the carrier’s headquarters in Singapore.

In an announcement, ONE explains that the aim is to both ”expand the global network and promote regional revitalization in Japan.”

In a comment to ShippingWatch, the carrier underlines that it is not a matter of moving activities or jobs away from Singapore.

”We are not shifting any global headquarter functions and authorities to the new office. ONE Dejima acts as an entity of knowledge process outsourcing. So, the benefit of the company would be ”increased efficiency with specialized skills”. In other words, their objective is to support the global headquarter’s global activities,” a ONE spokesman says.

The functions in question relate to basic tasks such as collection of market intelligence.
