Alphaliner: Hamburg Süd headed for Top 10

The acquisition of Chilean rival CCNI will represent Hamburg Süd's biggest acquisition to date. The carrier has performed 16 takeovers since 1985.

Before the end of 2014 family-owned Hamburg Süd will, for the first time in the company's history, enter the global ranking of the world's Top 10 largest container carriers, says analysts Alphaliner following Hamburg Süd's bid to acquire Chilean CCNI's container activities for USD 160 million.

If the deal is finalized, as scheduled, in December this year following a satisfactory due diligence and the necessary regulatory approvals, the move would represent Hamburg Süd's biggest acquisition to date.
