Maersk Line and MSC's planned 2M alliance will enable the carriers to offer shippers the highest number of options in port-to-port combinations from the key Chinese port Guangzhou and the so-called Pearl River region to Northern Europe. 2M will also be the only alliance offering direct port-to-port combinations from this Chinese region to Gdansk, Gothenburg and Aarhus, according to a study of the four alliances' transit times performed by SeaIntel Maritime Analysis.
The study was performed on the basis of the new networks published by 2M and Ocean Three (CMA CGM, UASC and CSCL) on the carriers' websites, while for the other two alliances, CKYHE (Cosco, K Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin and Evergreen) and G6 (APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, NYK, Orient Overseas Container Line and Hapag-Lloyd), the study is based on their current service networks.
