Maersk Line and MSC have just announced the major East-West network for the most extensive container alliance in the world, 2M. The 2M alliance will be launched on January 1st 2015 as the last of the four major alliances in the container industry.
The collaboration is a so-called Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA). These agreements are common in the container industry and involve sharing slots on each other's vessels. The goal is to cut costs by securing improved utilization of vessels, while also increasing the number of departures, so that customers - both old and new - chose the alliance as supplier.
