Acquisitions of smaller container operators gaining ground

Acquisition activity is stirring among the smaller container and feeder operators, though larger, capital intensive acquisitions are unlikely at this time, says Drewry.

Acquisitions of smaller regional players are becoming more frequent in the container industry among several of the major carriers, though bigger and more capital intensive acquisitions such as Hapag-Lloyd's merger with Chilean CSAV and Hamburg Süd's acquisition of South American CCNI are unlikely to happen on a large scale, according to analyst agency Drewry.
