Things are looking bleak for the large fleet of Panamax container vessels which will be replaced by larger ships in the wake of the Panama Canal expansion. Alternative routes are hard to come by, notes Alphaliner.

The future for the widely-used container vessel type Panamax looks increasingly uncertain. There is a shortage of alternative routes for the vessels between 4,000 - 5,300 teu which stand to be replaced by larger vessels in the wake of the expansion of the Panama canal. It is already difficult to find work for the ships, notes Alphaliner in its newsletter:
