Hyundai Merchant Marine is rapidly approaching one of the carrier's key targets, namely renegotiated charter deals HMM's foreign shipowners. The South Korean shipping group has for months been negotiating charter rates with 22 shipowners, and the carrier says that it has made considerable headway.

The company expects to land a deal before long, informs HMM. The carrier has at this point made "significant progress" with five container shipowners and that it is still working to reach agreement with dry bulk shipowners.

Once the agreements are settled, HMM will discuss them with creditors before publishing further details.

"There is a series of speculative reports based on incorrect information regarding charter negotiation. Such ill-informed can pose serious threats to not only our on-going discussions about charters but also the company’s business normalization," notes HMM.

The carrier will meet with its bondholders on Tuesday and Wednesday this week to ask for support and collaboration.
