It was far from a deal between equal partners when the 2M alliance with Maersk Line and MSC entered a cooperation agreement with Hyundai Merchant Marine. "We picked up the carrier from the bus stop where the alliance had left it," says Maersk Line CEO Søren Skou today.
Alliances are being formed in the container sector, agreements celebrated with raised champagne glasses and toasts about how "respect has formed the basis of a collaboration that will benefit the participating carriers through synergies and financial gains to mutual benefit." And of course the one about customers getting a better service.
