Maersk Line to take delivery of 27 ships in two years

With the delivery of Madrid Maersk, the first vessel in its new mega-series, Maersk Line has begun to take delivery of the 27 vessels set to enter the company’s fleet over the next two years. The carrier will return short-term chartered vessels from all segments to their owners, explains COO Søren Toft.

While Maersk Line is taking delivery of the first vessel in the new mega-series of 11 vessels of 20,568 teu, the carrier is also getting ready to send a sizeable part of its chartered fleet back to the ships’ owners. Without naming specific numbers for the scope, COO Søren Toft says in an interview with ShippingWatch that the carrier will continue its set strategy of "growing on par with its major competitors," and this includes reducing the number of short-term contracts.
