Samskip beat rival in fight for billion-dollar Norwegian exports

Key players in the large market for export of frozen fish from northern Norway disrupted Icelandic Eimskip's acquisition of Nor Lines. It would have weakened competition significantly, according to Samskip and other players in the market.

Netherlands-based Samskip acted quickly when it recently acquired Nor Lines. Icelandic rival Eimskip was forced to withdraw as a potential buyer of the Norwegian logistics company and carrier, at the request of the Norwegian competition authorities. The authorities deemed that Eimskip, which is already prominent in the country, would impede effective competition in the market for the freight of frozen fish with reefer vessels from the northern part of Norway to North Europe.
