Odfjell CEO sticks to ambitions in tough market

Odfjell CEO Kristian Mørch is spearheading a strategy in the chemical tanker segment that is ambitious but also comes with several pitfalls. ShippingWatch takes a look at the plan.

Almost three years have passed since Kristian Mørch took over as CEO at Odfjell's iconic headquarters, which is practically perched on the edge of a cliff outside of Bergen, Norway.

In those years, he has been particularly successful in cutting costs at the Odfjell family's more than 100 year-old chemical tanker shipping company, specialized in the transport of "dangerous liquids." Specifically, he eliminated USD 100 million in costs a year and a half ago in what proved to not be an insurmountable task, as savings in the so-called Felix project reached USD 109 million.
