Frontline's scrubber acquisition could jump-start shipowners' sulfur decisions

Several shipping companies have in recent weeks showed their cards by placing large scrubber orders, while Frontline takes it a step further by investing in a scrubber manufacturer producer. A strong signal that will strengthen interest from the rest of the sector, an analyst tells ShippingWatch.

With exactly a year and a half to go before the introduction of the global sulfur directive, a growing number of shipping companies are now flashing their strategies for complying with the new regulations. In particular, scrubbers – systems that clean sulfur from ships' exhaust – have become prevalent with several large orders placed by shipping companies across the globe in recent weeks.
