Ackermann had his sights set on Epic Gas before BW Group's acquisition

BW LPG, headed by CEO Martin Ackermann, was considering picking up Epic Gas for itself. But it wound up being owner BW Group and Chairman Andreas Sohmen-Pao who after a few weeks of negotiations settled a deal. ShippingWatch has spoken to BW LPG and Epic Gas about the perspectives.

With the acquisition of a majority stake in shipping company Epic Gas, heavily expansive Singapore-based BW Group now adds another player to its activities in the gas tanker sector.

Going forward, two separate shipping companies – BW LPG and Epic Gas – will make up the group's gas shipping portfolio, a sector where stakeholders have for a long time been calling for and working toward consolidation.
