CEO Niels Stolt-Nielsen has invited Chairman Laurence Odfjell to discuss a merger or other kinds of consolidation of their family businesses. To back up his invitation, Stolt-Nielsen has purchased equities to become a major shareholder with its competitor.

Stolt-Nielsen’s purchase of Odfjell shares has stirred the pot, and it is clear that the Oslo-based company wants to initiate consolidation talks with its Norwegian competitor headquartered in Bergen. Despite maintaining that the transaction is simply a financial investment.
