Platou: Golden 2015 ahead for tankers

Tanker rates look set to become the biggest bright spot in international shipping in 2015, a year that could develop into a new nightmare for the dry bulk carriers, says Platou Markets.

The tanker rebound will likely continue throughout 2015, where oil transports look set to become the bright spot in shipping after a year in which the massive downturn in dry bulk made headlines and will likely continue to do so this year.

According to RS Platou Markets, the fundamental changes in the oil market will boost the tanker business in the coming year. The oil price has collapsed due to the significant production compared to the relative demand, but Saudi Arabia's political change of strategy, with an increased focus on market share rather than price, also contributes to these positive expectations for crude oil transports, which typically boost product tanker as well.
