Drastic decline in scrapping threatens fragile recovery

The volume of container vessels sold for scrapping has plummeted to a level which according to Alphaliner could threaten the fragile recovery of the container market.

The prospect of improvement on the container market looks threatened by the container shipowners's low scrapping rates. The scrapping of aging container ships has diminished dramatically, to an extent that affects the sensitive balance of industry in demand and supply of tonnage, writes Alphaliner.
