Trafigura kicks off large-scale newbuild program

Commodity trader Trafigura has kicked off a large newbuild program totaling 35 tanker vessels. The ships will be delivered from yards in South Korea and China ahead of 2019.

Swiss-based Trafigura just taken delivery of the first ship in a large-scale newbuild program for a total of 35 tanker vessels, says the commodity trader in a press release.

The newbuild program consists of MR, LR2 and suezmax tankers. The ships were ordered by an Asian financing company, which the leases the ships to Trafigura. The commodity trader has an option to purchase the ships at a later day.
