China considers ban on open-loop scrubbers

It is far from certain that open-loop scrubbers will be approved in China once the country imposes stricter sulfur regulations from next year. Meanwhile, a large, German shipping company has just invested in open-loop scrubbers, which have faced harsh criticism in the industry.

China considers banning open-loop scrubbers in the country's waters, said Dr. Xie Xie, director of the Waterborne Transportation Research Institute at China's Ministry of Transport, at a conference in Hong Kong according to the media Splash.
