Trade war caused record-high freight volumes to US before New Year's

Goods were rushed to be shipped before the trade war between the US and China would render them more expensive, leading to record-high container traffic over the Pacific Ocean in December.

Freight volumes increased by an entire 29.9 percent according to data from Piers and Alphaliner. The US imported over 1.5 million teu from Asia, while Chinese imports increased to 1.09 million teu.
