Sri Lanka braces for marine pollution as remains of X-press Pearl sinks off Colombo

As salvage experts failed to tow fire-stricken X-press Pearl, the remains are now sinking off the port of Colombo. The incident is a "a terrible environmental disaster," says environmentalist, while Sri Lanka is preparing a compensation claim.

Salvage experts failed to tow fire-stricken X-press Pearl carrying chemicals out to sea as it started to sink Wednesday off Sri Lanka's main port, raising fears of a marine environmental disaster, officials said.
