Critics warn of poor conditions at EU-approved shipbreakers in Turkey

Several industry stakeholders point out that Turkish scrap yards are of equal or worse quality than their Indian counterparts. Now the EU will carry out unannounced audits.

Shipbreakers in Turkey could be in the same or even worse condition than the controversial yards in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan despite having received a coveted EU approval, several observers tell ShippingWatch.
