EU ETS to cost carriers' customers up to five percent of freight rates

The bill for EU CO2 allowances is around USD 30 per container, HSBC estimates in a new report on the impact of various new climate requirements.

The shipping industry is in the midst of a ”tectonic shift” caused by climate regulation from both the United Nations Maritime Organization (IMO) and other regional initiatives - and it will affect both customers and shipping companies in different ways, according to a new report from the bank HSBC entitled ”Assessing the impact of future emissions regulations”.
