Ships are sailing 3% longer than before the Houthis began targeting shipping in the Red Sea, says Vitol’s chief executive.

The shipping industry is now burning an extra 100,000 barrels of oil a day because the crisis in the Red Sea has forced carriers to send ships south of Africa instead, says Vitol chief executive Russell Hardy according to Reuters.
