The question of whether the price of the Triple-E ships, at USD 190 million a piece, was too high compared to the prices of the current market has been discussed at great length by several brokers recently. Now Michael Storgaard, group press officer at Maersk Line, confirms to ShippingWatch that the carrier has been given a price reduction on the ships, which are being built at South Korean shipyard DSME.
The news of the price reduction comes after China Shipping Container Lines recently ordered five container ships with a capacity similar to that of the Triple-E ships, at the much lower price of USD 135 million per ship.
