Exxon: Natural gas will surpass coal by 2040

In a new forecast, the American energy giant predicts massive growth for natural gas, though wind and energy will also see growth.

By 2040, natural gas will surpass coal to become the second-most used energy source in the world.

That's the prediction of American oil and gas giant Exxon, which also predicts that one fourth of the world's energy supply by that time will consist of natural gas - only surpassed by oil.
